Middle Creek Special Hunts

Middle Creek is part of State Game Lands 46 in Lancaster and Lebanon counties and provides for a variety of land uses. Some areas are open to hunting only by being selected for a permit through a drawing.

For information on hunting in the Public Hunting Areas at Middle Creek, where application to special hunts is not required, please visit Middle Creek's webpage. If you need to contact the Pennsylvania Game Commission between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, call the Visitor Center at 717-733-1512; otherwise, call the Southeast Region Office at 610-926-3136.

Pymatuning Special Hunts

Pymatuning is part of State Game Lands 214 in Crawford County and provides for a variety of land uses. Some areas are open to hunting only by being selected for a permit through a drawing. The Pymatuning Administration Building is located at 9552 Hartstown Rd.; Hartstown, PA 16131.

2023 Mentored Fall Turkey Hunt Application

Are you interested in learning how to hunt turkeys in the fall? Apply to join the PGC & NWTF for a free mentored fall turkey hunt with dogs! Five selected participants will be paired with experienced mentors and trained dogs for a 1-day turkey hunt in Waynesburg, PA. Firearms and all equipment will be provided. Ages 12 & older welcome to apply. Minors must be accompanied at all times by a parent or legal guardian.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission will select five applicants who are 12 years of age and older, who have little to no experience turkey hunting. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be selected at random.  Selected participants will be notified on September 18, 2023.

A mandatory orientation will be held the afternoon prior to the hunt (November 3, 2023) at Waynesburg Sportmen's Association. Participants will pattern a shotgun (guns will be provided), attend a briefing on safety, and have the chance to meet their mentor. Dinner will be provided.

MENTORED DEER ARCHERY HUNTS IN PHILADELPHIA

Since 2019, the Pennsylvania Game Commission and National Deer Association have partnered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to offer mentored deer archery hunt opportunities at the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The mentored deer archery hunt provides individuals age 12 and over with little to no hunting experience an opportunity to participate in a managed deer hunt under the guidance of trained mentors. Through the program, participants will learn how hunting benefits conservation, deer biology, how to shoot a crossbow, hunting safety and ethics, field dressing, and much more. All necessary equipment, like crossbows and ground blinds, are provided.

The application period is open from August 1 – 30, 2023.
